for the Cure, Saturday November 8 at Pomona Arts Colony

In an effort to raise awareness and funding for the ongoing
battle against cancer, Ink’d Chronicles Tattoo Studio
and Art Gallery in Pomona will be hosting its first “Tattoos
for the Cure” event to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness
Month. The affair is set to take over Pomona’s famed downtown
2nd Street Art Colony on Saturday Nov. 8, from noon to 11:30PM.
Proceeds will be donated to the Robert and Beverly Lewis Family
Cancer Care Center, a state-of-the-art facility that provides
diagnosis, treatment and counseling services.
“This isn’t your typical fundraiser with a bunch
of guys in suits standing around holding cocktails,” says
Terry Dipple, founder and proprietor of Ink’d Chronicles.
Aptly expressed, considering that against a backdrop of live
music performances and an exhibition of high quality low-brow
counter-culture artwork, his studio will be offering pink ribbon
tattoos in commemoration of Breast Cancer Awareness month, or
any other tattoo one would want to commemorate a family member
or loved one.
“At first they [Lewis Family Cancer Care Center] were
skeptical of a tattoo-themed charity event, as they are used
to dealing with more conservative types,” Dipple says.
However, being that Cancer does not discriminate based on one’s
stylistic preferences, Terry sought to “bring awareness
to a demographic the Care Center may not otherwise reach.”
The impetus for this event occurred when Dipple’s girlfriend
was diagnosed with breast cancer. Moved by the quality of support
and services offered at the RBLFCCC, Terry and his daughter,
Tess—who helps run the shop and also works as a piercer—both
got a pink ribbon tattoo as a symbol of their love and support.
As such, they extend the invitation to one and all to do the
same. (Hans Fink)
