Local Artist Takes New Approach

Claremont artist Sumi Foley will take part in an upcoming exhibition at the Bunny Gunner Gallery in Pomona. The exhibition, entitled In Visible, will run from January 10 to February 7.

Ms. Foley make her hand-sewn art using abandoned kimonos and other fabrics. Her current work will take a more positive spin as she moves away from darker themes that were common in her work.

The change comes from attending husband John York's concerts and seeing the joy that music can instill in people reflected in their smiling faces. "I want to share this kind of energy in my art, not just fear and sadness, but positive emotions and the small joys and happiness in everyday life," Ms. Foley said. "If you don't pay attention you can miss out on them."

Other artists featured at the exhibition include Tomoko Suzuki showcasing drawings, Cindy Rinne displaying Fiberverse and Penn Weldon offering paitings.

The Bunny Gunner Gallery is located at 266 W. 2nd Street in Pomona. An opening reception will take place on Saturday, January 10 from 6 pm to 11 pm. where visitors can meet the artists and enjoy refreshments.
