Two parts Seurat and one part Dali, Harold Fox is a local artist who manages to make use of what the greats have done before him while maintaining a completely, and remarkably, unique style of his own. Fox employs an impressive luminism—toying with the balance between light and dark—that is especially jaw-dropping in this collection, “Urban Visions
” This visually stunning, sometimes startling collection portrays life experiences with penetrating color as the naturalism of city life and Fox’s unrestricted imagination collide. These “Visions,” as extremely astute and discerning as they are, make it completely apparent the lifelong love affair the artist has had with artistry. As a child, Fox knew that not only did he love to draw but he also had a great talent for it. He cultivated this talent, earned a degree in commercial art and finished his education at Long Beach State before spending two years in the military (where he was commissioned to continue drawing by his general). After having spent many years working as a commercial artist to support his family in Long Beach, Fox moved to Riverside to retire and to continue to pursue his creative drive. “Urban Visions” shows how far that drive has taken him.
