Ancient philosophies and worldviews (read: those Greek dudes)
had long regarded the four elements—fire, earth, air
and water—as the key to understanding the fundamental
principles of the universe. Earth was associated with materialism,
fire with passion and energy, air with spirituality and
water with emotion and intuition. With this kind of cultural/historical
cred, it is the liquid element that emerges and serves as
the overarching umbrella for the dA Center for Arts’
upcoming show, Art H2O aka The Water Show. You don’t
have to be a Pisces (but it might help) to enjoy this creative
showcase in the heart of the Pomona Arts Colony; it will
whet your appetite with an array of paintings, video installations
and other objets d’agua united by the theme of water.
Crashing waves, the roiling surf, a green-hued brook coursing
its way through a fairyland (Lake Arrowhead artist Lisa
Cook fills in nicely here), a koi goldfish in a tranquil
pond—Art H2O will do full justice to that life-giving
condensation, the cool and crisp liquid that fills oceans
and (to some) the vehicle to give their mojo a thorough
cleansing. No wet paint here, folks, just a full-sensory
drenching for our artistic souls that, sadly, aren’t
hydrated nearly enough as they should be.
